first buds
the dream fading
as I tell it
--BILL KENNEY
Votes:641*** Points:17
Comments:Lovely haiku, but I wonder if it would be even stronger if the second line would be: the dream fading
#21 SECOND PLACE
her newborn’s fingers . . .
outside the nursery window
cherry trees in bud
--Catherine J.S. Lee, USA

14
silent pink dawn
the crab apple tree buds
burst
--Jacek Margolak; Poland
Votes:13**** Points:07
Comments:I'd generally advise against having a verb stand alone as line 3, but this time, coming after the rather crabbed (pun
intended) second line, it works.
15
endearments
and tulip buds via UPS--
waiting for a kiss
--Alegria Imperial

Buds on the branches…
on my room a withered rose
in an old vase
--Magdalena Dale - Romania
Votes:221*** Points:09
Comments: I would use in rather than on my room in second line.
19
orchard dawn
out of the twilight buds
birdsong
--Bouwe
Votes:4*2*** Points:10
Comments:I actually preferred #19 to a couple of these, but didn’t vote for it because “dawn” and “twilight” both were mentioned in the
same moment. If “twilight” had been eliminated, it would have been a strong haiku rather than a confusing one.

When will the trees bud?

'RESILIENCE' was received while voting had already started and therefore was not part of the voter's list.
RESILIENCE
Tremor turn trauma;
Rainless flood with nuclear rain…
Cherry blossoms bud.
--G. Newton V. Chance, Trinidad and Tobago
The Kukai - a haiku contest, where each person submits a haiku, and then, becomes a judge. When all the poems are compiled in a list, the contestants comment, vote, and give scores to poems of their choice. One cannot comment on, nor vote for one’s own poem. At the end of the voting process winners emerge, the selection based on votes by the kukai’s contestants.
