The Kukai - a haiku contest, where each person submits a haiku, and then, becomes a judge. When all the poems are compiled in a list, the contestants comment, vote, and give scores to poems of their choice. One cannot comment on, nor vote for one’s own poem. At the end of the voting process winners emerge, the selection based on votes by the kukai’s contestants.

only cup of tea
warms my hands
Jacek Margolak; POLAND
Votes:532*** Points:17
Comment1:Though I've problems with the grammar in line two this haiku opens a fine story.
Comment2:I like a warm image
Comment3: I like this but want it more implied by dropping "only" and maybe switching lines 2 and 3.

Valentine card—
she smudges the hollow heart
of strawberry halves
--Alegria
Votes:*1**** Points:02
Comments: Wonderful phrasing of line 2 and 3. My interp was a young girl perhaps receiving strawberry halves as a v-day gift. The "Valentine card" of line 1 made me wonder if it was a drawing of a strawberry but since I love the idea of real strawberrys I wonder about changing line 1 to Valentine's Day.

Comments: I wasn't sure if these were illustrated moths or damage to the card done by moths. I'd perfer it clarified but I still like the 'ku in either case.

ReplyDeleteDear Gillena,
I tried to post this comment on the kukai results page but failed with an openID and even a Wordpres ID!
But here it is:
Congratulations to Jacek, Cesar, Magdalena and Catherine as well as to all those--us-- who participated in this kukai! I feel honored to have read such gems. If I didn't have only 6 votes, which I held tightly to my breast while rereading the entries a dozen times, I would have voted for all.
Thank you for that vote for my haiku! Also, thanks for the caring comment on the fuzziness of the image. I'll keep this in mind when I rework on it.
Thanks to Margaret, mi hermana, for introducing me to this site through her blog.
Thank you, Gillena for welcoming me warmly into this wonderful space--the Filipina who has since left the islands to live in Vancouver, BC, Canada, but whose spirit flies back and forth at no appointed time between waking and deep dreaming.
Until the next kukai...
Much love,
Alegria
Congratulations to Jacek, Cezar, Magdalena, Catherine and all the others participants in this kukai. It is an honor for me to be part of this contest. Thanks to those who voted and commented my haiku, I was happy to find that it was appreciated. Since it is my second entry I want to thank you Gillena for inviting me here, for being a wonderful hostess.
